2 Portals? Empty 2 Portals?

I falled from aether (i had a parachute) and I landed on top of a portal , but it wasn't the portal that I build. Then I went trough the portal to aether and I came from another portal than normally (it was relativly close to the first portal so I found my self back there.) So is this normal, and if it is, what desides wich portal will I land on if I fall?

Happens to me a lot (due to Zephyrs ¬¬), I THINK it's normal. Can't assure anything.
